INJURIES or ACCIDENTS on the courts
Occasionally players experience injuries while enjoying pickleball. When this happens, members have a responsibility to be of assistance, if at all possible. If you see someone who may be injured, please come to their aid or, at minimum, check in to see how they’re doing and whether they need help.
Both of our playing locations have First Aid Kits on-site. If a situation appears serious, call emergency services first, then use the kit as appropriate and stay with the injured person until help arrives.
To access the KIT at 9th Line, enter the storage area using code 2373, and inside the building, use the code STACK to enter the fenced in area there. The First Aid Kid is a red box on the shelf in that area.
To access the KIT at Memorial Park, go to the ORANGE storage bin in the area where the picnic tables are. Use code STACK to open the lock, and the First Aid Kit is a red box located inside that bin.
What’s in the First Aid Kits:
- Ice packs
- Bandages (assorted sizes)
- Gauze pads, medical tape and scissors
- Polysporin ointment
- Non-latex gloves
- Face masks
- Eye patches
- AA batteries
- Baby aspirin
- Arm sling
- Wound cleaning materials (e.g., saline, wipes)
Basic steps:
- Ensure the area is safe; stop play.
- Check on the individual and ask what they need.
- Call emergency services for significant injuries.
- Retrieve and use items from the First Aid Kit as appropriate.
- Stay with the person until they’re okay or professional help arrives.
- The accident must be reported using the Accident Report Form (found in the 9th Line storage area, or in the Memorial Park players bin). Complete the accident form as much as possible and forward a copy to pb@pickleballstouffville.ca
AED (Automated External Defibrillator)
Memorial Park has access to an AED. It is located on the south wall of the building housing the washrooms. This building is just north of the courts, and is a Town of Stouffville managed property.
This AED is modern and quite easy to use by anyone. Here are the steps for your general knowledge:
- Turn it On: Press the power button. The machine will provide clear, step-by-step voice and visual prompts.
- Apply Pads: Bare the person’s chest and stick the adhesive electrode pads exactly as pictured on the pads.
- Analyze: The machine will automatically check the heart rhythm and instruct everyone to stand clear.
- Deliver a Shock: If a shockable rhythm is detected, the AED will either deliver the shock automatically or prompt you to press a flashing button. It will not shock someone if it's not needed.
